We are an award winning couture bridal boutique located in Sheffield, the Steel City, famed for the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, Def Leppard and Henderson’s relish!
The White Room is an inspiring and creative bridal space in which our sole purpose was and still is to allow the modern day woman to choose her own bridal style from a selection of largely British designers offering both craftsmanship and individuality. Varying from the Brit cool, vintage inspiration of Halfpenny London to the utter classic and impeccable cuttings of Suzanne Neville and Sassi Holford, to the delectable bead work of Jenny Packham and colourful embroidery of Claire Pettibone, we offer couture service to those wanting more from their wedding day look.
The White Room was born in 2011 and our innate sense of style is prevalent throughout our collections. We have grown and developed a strong team, complete with fashion forward stylists, innovative designers, UK fabric providers, experienced seamstresses… We pride ourselves on supporting local business through cross marketing and sustainable working. Our growth and reputation as the must go to boutique is founded on strong bridal design & style opinions, backed up with technical expertise & up beat service. We not only know our designers and fabrics; we know how a young woman wants to not only look but feel on her wedding day.
Who are we?
We are situated in the beautiful city of Sheffield, in a grade II listed building. Since opening in 2011, one thing has remained constant and that is the semi industrial feel of our boutique, which juxtaposes beautifully with the softness of the gowns and the tranquillity of the surroundings. We don’t have a huge selection, aiming to ensure that choice is not only not overwhelming to brides, but also specific for the design or the boutique. We buy an edited collection of what we like from our designers and showcase what we are passionate about dressing you in. We like colour, tone, sharp tailoring and creative vision. We don’t have 35 versions of the lace fishtail or anything that needs 4 people to stuff you in to the back of a car to get to the church… We also don’t have any made to order gowns under £1000 from new, no backless corsets (think about it!) or the ability to make you taller, thinner or one of the Kardashians…. We do however have the ability to make you feel the most beautiful, happy and excited version of yourself!
Our average sample range will host between 40-50 gowns by our select designers and we are hot on ensuring you never try the same gown on twice and that when you are with us, you allow yourself to be styled and dressed, rather than left to your own devices in an environment which we believe needs not only guidance, but confidence in our collections and knowledge also. If we had a £1 for every time of our brides buys the polar opposite of what they pinned on Pinterest or Instagram, we’d be millionaires!!
Our sample sizes range from UK 10 to UK 14 which we find works on everyone from a UK 6 to UK 18… All of our designers dress from UK 4 to UK 28+ and we can also offer bespoke, made to measure and couture options on all of our gowns.
Our address is 20 Norfolk Row, Sheffield, S1 2PA. You can call us on 0114 2722336 or email us on email@example.com
We have 2 style chapters to The White Room… Chapter 1 embodies the softness of our non-structured gowns, all about the adornment of beading, embroidery, silk slips, ethereal back detail and amazing cut of the cloth. Did someone say separates….
Gowns by Claire Pettibone embrace the garden, vineyard, rustic and vintage inspired gowns that have become so popular with the Yorkshire outdoor, festival vibe weddings. Claire’s gentle use of colour, couture details, European laces and graceful embroideries flutter and flow to make a woman look and feel like a goddess. In contrast we have Jenny Packham, the beading expert. Jenny Packham wedding dress designs can be seen on the red carpets of Los Angeles at events from the Academy Awards to the Grammy’s. Her signature is in the way her powerful beading or delicate chiffons fall over the female form, flattering and highlighting all that we love about our shape. Finally we add the amazing Kate Halfpenny to the page. British made, Kate’s visionary bridal creations split into four collections, each with their own unique aesthetic and signature style running through all her entirely British made pieces. Her pieces have a beautiful fashionable edge, yet her fabrics are second to none! Think Kate Moss meets Alexa Chung and you’re there…
Chapter 2 is all about the structure. Hosting 2 British labels, Suzanne Neville is a UK powerhouse of corsetry, her gowns look as if they are made by magic, her fit impeccable. Suzanne Neville is proud to be entirely British made, with all designing and hand-made production being undertaken in London. Still adhering to traditional origins, Suzanne Neville dresses are hand crafted using the techniques of contemporary couture. Most well-known for beautifully constructed wedding gowns and glamorous evening dresses with signature-structured bodices, the collection is incredibly diverse. Silhouettes vary from slim fitting bias cuts to full and romantic gowns, always using only the finest silks and hand embroideries. Sitting alongside Suzanne is Sassi Holford, another British label, famously known for creating a beautifully, classic gown with a feminine twist. Her variety in styling is exquisite, from full ball gowns to figure hugging crepes, brides looking for a romantic and feminine gown will simply fall in love.
We work with Ghost and their dye to order service. This collection allows you to choose from eleven vintage inspired styles and thirteen colours ranging from soft pastels to jewel colours to create a unique dress for your special event. The range includes shawls that can be dyed to co-ordinate with your dress. Did you see Spectre? Be a kind bride – let your maids be a Bond girl, just for a day! We have a selection of colours in sizes P (UK 6) to XL (UK 16).
Spend & expectations…
Our current bridal collections start from £1,795 and range to just over £3,500 with the majority of our pieces sitting between £2,000 and £2,750. We chose to work within that price bracket as simply, this is where we receive the best fabrics, the most amazing cuts and the style and creativity which we feel is worth the investment and the money. When else are you going to want to wear something of such distinction? Second best feel on the skin, the ‘typical’ gown walking down the aisle or the fingertip veil are just not things we feel should be offering to the modern, stylish and forward thinking brides of 2016 and beyond. We recognise we are a high end couture bridal boutique and ensure that you feel your investment is not only in the gown but the surroundings, our team, our service and your entire experience. Should you wish to invest a little less, please do get in touch as we do have a selection of ‘off the peg’ and sample gowns which may work for you too.
What inspires us?
Chloe says: “I just started doing what I’d always hoped to do. Fashion has been in my life for as long as I can remember (the good and the bad!). After university and working full time in a completely uncreative field, I just started playing with the idea of bridal fashion and The White Room was born. I was inspired to the lack of decent offerings initially but then it became bigger than that. I became inspired by what I could offer, what I could create and style and what career I could forge for myself. With no business ownership background or any kind of fashion qualification, the designers bought me, my desire to create a reputable, UK accredited business and they bought in to my ethos of style, transparency and the creative aspect we wished to add to the bridal world as a whole.
I didn’t do it to prove anything to anyone besides myself and since 2011, I have definitely grown in confidence, I feel like I inspire boutiques, suppliers, that designers love the boutique and The White Room’s approach to the industry and now we are even winning awards! To be nominated for the 2016 Wedding Industry Awards was not only a huge honour but to win was immense as this was all from our brides. The brides are inspired by the look and feel of the space we have created and they took the time and energy to tell people about that, for us, that is huge. They like how we evolve each season. I never want to be one of those boutiques where people know what they’re going to see. I always want an element of surprise. One thing I never want to do is copy what anybody else is doing. We have a signature, and it’s very important to me to stay true to that.”
