Sheffield style in Stephanie Allin

We got engaged on the 20th September 2011 which was actually my birthday. Leigh booked us a lovely hotel in Sheffield for the night and as we got ready for a birthday meal and night out he got down on one knee and proposed with an engagement ring charm for a bracelet he had given me earlier for my birthday. The boys got sense – he knew that picking a ring for me would only end in disaster and so this was just a token until I picked my own – I actually ended up having one made in the end!

This is Jade’s story of her White Room experience in ‘Frankie’ by Stephanie Allin which we paired with the Tilly jacket and DC Bouquets headpiece ‘Hattie’.

“A few weeks after our engagement we found out we were actually expecting our second child and so plans for the wedding had to be put back until late 2013 and we booked Aston Hall Hotel for the 31st August 2013, no significance, but it was a good spot for our families based both in Worksop and Sheffield and we fell in love with it when we first visited”

And the dress…

“I had walked past the White Room a few times, back in my single days, but it was actually my now Hubby that reminded me of it. I rang and spoke to Chloe and made my first appointment, I wasn’t sure what I was looking for at the time, had no budget in mind but knew exactly what I didn’t want and straight away Chloe got that and I felt confident about my visit before I even got there.
When I got there, the White Room was everything you want as a bride – pretty, chic, clean yet comfortable with a sea of beautiful dresses elegantly laid out around the room. Chloe fit this description too as well as very friendly and approachable not to mention pretty damn glam & stylish too!
Straight away I knew I was in good hands, Chloe just seemed to ‘get’ me and what I was/wasn’t looking for, I narrowed my selection of dresses down to three Stephanie Allin creations and Chloe advised to come back when Stephanie was there later in the month, where I could benefit from a free made to measure service and so I booked my next appointment”.

When you began your dress hunt, what were you looking for? How many shops did you do? “All I knew is that I didn’t want a strapless dress – I didn’t want to look like every other bride. I went to 3 other shops and the White Room was my final shop, when I explained to Chloe that I didn’t know what I wanted but that I knew what I didn’t want – she totally got me and straight away told me over the phone about how most of her dresses weren’t strapless. I ended up with strapless! Typical. But I fell for Frankie straightaway, OK she was strapless but she was ‘different’ and totally me! I teamed her with the Tilly Shrug to get the ‘not strapless’ feel I wanted. However I totally embraced the ‘strapless’ simplicity of Frankie for my evening do, teamed with a black sash and black killer heels”.

What was your groom’s reaction to your gown? Did the guests love it and more importantly, did you feel amazing?
“He loved it, it totally wasn’t what he was expecting – he kept telling me this all day! I also got the approval of our 6 year old son, walking down to the ceremony he turned to me and said ‘You look good’ – cue the first time I had to hold back the tears! Guests were amazed by the dress and even the men were telling me how beautiful it was!
I felt amazing and didn’t want to take her off! I loved Frankie for the comfort too, the pockets were perfect my little something blue and of course my lip gloss”!

Was your wedding day everything you wished for? Did everything go to plan? Did any little things go wrong?!
“Absolutely! I actually can’t believe how perfect everything went and if anything did go wrong, we were too busy enjoying ourselves to notice!”
What was the best part of the day?
The ceremony, if you’d have asked me before I’m not sure I would’ve said that was the part I was looking forward to the most, but I think it was only at the point of walking down the aisle and exchanging vows with Leigh that I realised that’s what it’s all about and from then on, I don’t think I stopped smiling!”

What was your 1st dance song? Does this have special meaning to you both?
“Show me Love – Robin S – Myself and Leigh were together 10 years ago for a brief few months and this song was the one that always reminded us of each other from then on. Our friends all know it as our song and as we trawled through hundreds of romantic songs trying to find something suitable, we realised there was only one song we could have! Not sure our Nan’s approved though!”

Is there anything you would change?
“Not change, but wish time had gone a little slower, I wish I could’ve enjoyed the planning stages a bit more, but work kids and family life make that quite hard and the day just went too fast – people tell you it does and its true, but in the time since the wedding we’ve been remembering little bits (and shedding a few happy tears) about the day with the numerous bottles of champers we were bought which has been lovely”

Do you have any advice for brides to be?
“Give yourself plenty of time for everything, if people want to help – let them (I took on a little too much myself!) and enjoy the run up! On the big day, relax and take the day as it comes, enjoy every minute and make sure you’re the last one off the dance floor! After the big day, make sure you’ve got some time set aside with your new hubby, you’ve probably neglected him on the run up with all your planning and organising – now it’s time to enjoy what all the effort was for – your happily ever after”

Who were your following suppliers?

We wish Jade and her hubby Leigh, and their whole family who were a joy to serve the very best for the future.
